My shadow and I got ourselves up for the first time since we “sprang forward” an hour in honor of daylight savings time. After finishing up the Chevron Houston Marathon in January, I’ve taken advantage of the snooze button an obscene amount of the time. But, with another run coming up in May and the Texas temps on the rise, I figured it’s as good a time as any to roll on out of bed with the chickens again.
I’m super excited to be running in the inaugural Silo District Marathon coming up in May. When I first heard about Chip Gaines (of the Chip and Joanna Gaines, HGTV – Fixer Upper that everyone knows and loves) recent encounter with Gabriele Grunewald (Gabe) that inspired him to put some action behind his personal distance running goal, I knew this would be one special event. And as if I needed more inspiration to sign up, a friend I haven’t seen since high school (except for through the virtual world of Facebook) reached out and asked if we could meet up and do the half marathon together. Ummm…yes, please.
As the story goes, Chip realized after hearing about Gabe’s battle with a rare form of cancer – Adenoid Cystic Carcenoma – that has been going on for several years, there was no time to waste and the time to give his dream a shot was now. Stories of inspiration and chasing after a goals are right up my alley and I’ve got a goal and inspiration of my own this year.
I’ve teamed up with some other former coaches and volunteers for Girls on the Run – San Antonio to raise $5,0000 this year. This money will help:
- Expand the program
- Reach more girls in the community
- Provide scholarships for girls in underprivileged areas
- Provide running shoes so that no girl in the program goes without
There will be more to come on my upcoming events and those of other team members and I am excited to be sharing this journey with you. If you are interested in making a donation, you can click here. Please be sure to check with your employer prior to making any donations for matching programs which could double or triple your impact!
